August 30, 1797-February 1, 1851
Mary Shelley was born in London. At age 19 she wrote Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus. At this time period women were not allowed to have their novels published so "For at least the next hundred years the feminist cause was to suffer setback after setback because of society's association of sexual promiscuity with those who advocated the rights of women" (Ty). She fell in love with Percy Shelley and they had 4 children together. Percy Shelley was the known author of Frankenstein, until women were able to publish their own books.
