Relation to the Novel:
Reni Guido, the artist, painted this picture of 9 women studying in some way. During this time period women were not allowed in schools, so they were home-schooled. These women are studying books, art and sewing. These subjects were mostly the only subjects a women could learn. Some women during this time chose not to be educated. However, these few women show just by this still life that they have put forth their time to be educated, they knew just how important it was. Even if these women knew that their studies may never be used they still had the endurance to continue their studies.
Victor knew how important it was to get his education, so even when his father was not educated and didnt approve of his study, Victor still continued his education in a field he was most interested in.
